a picnic and a hike

We spent Labor Day morning relaxing, and then went out for a picnic lunch and hike.

Which turned into an afternoon climb.  And a really wonderful way to spend the day together.

This post is heavy with pictures, and mostly of the girls.  Neither of the boys would sit still long enough for many pictures.  Nate was very happy in his element, climbing, jumping, running, and tumbling.  And Isaac kept wandering off…which if you know Isaac, is about normal.

I think the shoelaces on Olivia’s shoes are the longest I have ever seen.  Poor girl kept tripping on them.  By the end of the day, she was covered in red dirt….and so was I after holding her each time she fell over.

Nothin’ fancy for this picnic, just PBJ and chips.  And a dipped ice-cream cone afterwards.

After watching her siblings climb this tree, she had to try it too.  She is so brave!

Looks like a great day! The kids must have had a blast! Sometimes the simple things are best.

Is your heart in your throat each time your boys make a leap like that? I know mine would be!

Haha! It used to bother me more, but I'm so used to it now. There are still lots of times I have to set firm boundaries of risky activities, simply because I don't wish to spend our time in the E.R.

I guess boys will be boys, eh?
